About MMLA
MMLA started meeting and organizing in the late 50s. Early meetings were held at Cutler Safe & Lock in Dearborn Heights. Joe Falk, owner of Hardware Sales in Detroit, was instrumental in forming MMLA, and our by-laws and procedures for meetings. After several years of planning, the actual charter was formed in 1961. Ramo (Ray) Belletini worked for Hardware Sales, and was a great catalyst for drawing locksmiths together to help form MMLA. Original members were required to be store owners. There were no mobile-only locksmiths. In 1964 Ray Belletini and Mike Cutler were made “Honorary Members” for their contributions to the association. Around 1967-1968 the bylaws were changed to allow non-store owners to join. Dave Mercue, Jr., Terry [Last Name], and Mike Cutler were the first three non-owners to join. The organization moved to the Rackam Building in downtown Detroit, which was a prestigious venue.
